Dhan Maya Chepang , 98, Enter Her New House At Namtar, Makwanpur


Ninety-eight year old Dhan Maya Chepang, whose house at Namtar VDC-9 in the Makwanpur district was destroyed by the April 25, has started living in a recently built residence." We were Compelled to live under a tarpaulin for seven months," she said, adding that her family faced several hardship while living there. Her new house is one of the 26 building constructed jointly by the National Volunteering Programme and Social Organizations.The houses were recently handed over by lawmaker Rajaram Syangtan to the quake hit chepang  families. The houses were constructed as part of a programme to manage permanent shelter for the displaced chepang families  in Namtar, Gopirang and Dhadhar areas.

Another quake survivor Gopiram Chepang , 86, also said that they are glad to get a permanent house at the onset of winter season. "We went through various difficulties while staying under temporary huts", he said. Each displaced chepang family got a two-roomed house that contain roof made up of Galvanized Zing Sheets.

Quake-affected Chepang families also volunteered for a month to constructed a houses. There are around 35 Chepang families living in the settlement. The earthquake, however , did not damage houses belonging to nine families.
